About Me
Hello! I’m Dr. Lisa Scavone, Associate Professor of Mathematics at Cuyahoga Community College. I earned my doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Educational Technology from the University of Florida, and both my master's and bachelor's degrees in Mathematics from the University of Akron.
I teach a full range of mathematics courses at the community college level, from remedial to college-transfer. I have extensive experience teaching online, as well as in blended and traditional environments.
My research interests include online mathematics education, the gender gap in math self-efficacy, and the underrepresentation of women in STEM fields.

committees, including serving as chair and secretary. Create new mathematics course curriculum and regularly

Gender Makes a Difference: Math Self-efficacy and Interest in STEM
Submitted a proposal to present at the 2026 Faculty Colloquium. I plan to share my doctoral dissertation research, including my literature review highlights, theoretical framework, methodology, and findings. I also plan to discuss implications of my study, including research-backed strategies that instructors can implement in their own classrooms to help foster students' math self-efficacy development.

Online Proctoring User Testing

Participating in a Collegewide review of several online proctoring services. This requires attending training sessions, setting up proctored exams,
reviewing results, and evaluating proctoring services.
SB1 Resources Master List Coordination

Volunteered to coordinate the creation of a resources master list for all math faculty members. This list will be a part of the official course
outline of every math course in order to align with the new SB1 legislation.
Math Transferability Coordination
